Berkshire Growth Hub highly rated by local business owners in latest survey

Latest survey recognises value of local business support service to Berkshire SMEs

The Thames Valley Berkshire Growth Hub is making a positive difference to SMEs across Berkshire according to a latest survey of business owners. The Hub, which delivers free, impartial advice and support to ambitious businesses and entrepreneurs, received high praise for the quality and impact of its support in an annual review of its services.

Conducted by the Thames Valley Berkshire LEP, the 2019 Evaluation Survey has revealed 91% of businesses supported by the Berkshire Growth Hub feel the support has had a positive impact on their business and 91% said they would recommend the team to others. The survey also showed a year on year increase in overall satisfaction levels.

Since it was set-up in 2014, the Growth Hub has been achieving positive outcomes for small and medium sized companies operating in a variety of sectors and the team are naturally delighted by this latest endorsement.

Martin Hall, Growth Hub Manager, explains: “We pride ourselves on delivering a high quality service to businesses and the results of this survey are testimony to our achievements. We have already supported thousands of business owners to start-up, grow or scale-up a business, but we’re keen to help thousands more achieve their ambitions.”

“Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of the county’s economy and it is vital they can access the help available to ensure they can continue to prosper. We provide a one-stop shop for business advice and can connect business owners with industry experts, finance providers, private and public sector support as well as providing specialist programmes and events. What’s more, this latest survey demonstrates we are really making a difference.”

The Berkshire Growth Hub, which is delivered by Oxford Innovation, has helped over 2,000 businesses and provided intensive support to over 700 via its High Growth Programme. The team has helped business owners with a range of challenges, including raising finance, improving productivity, increasing profitability, devising growth strategies, exporting and expanding their teams.

One local business to have received support is Insight Technology in Bracknell. With the help of the Berkshire Growth Hub, Insight Technology has successfully secured £300,000 worth of funding to expand into new office space and further grow its team to serve its rapidly growing customer base.

Michael Avery, Director at Insight Technology, says: “I can whole heartedly recommend the Berkshire Growth Hub. The programme was tailored to our needs and has been very effective. Our adviser took time to understand our business and talked us through our funding options. It was refreshing to receive impartial, honest advice with no agenda. This help meant we secured the investment we needed quicker and can now move forward with our plans.”

Reading-based Improv4Business, which helps employees develop key employability skills, has also benefited from the Growth Hub’s services according to the company’s founder Alexander McWilliam.

“I don’t think my business would be where it is now if it wasn’t for the support I received from the Berkshire Growth Hub,” explains Alex. “The programme has given me a solid foundation and my business is going from strength to strength with referrals and repeat business growing.”

The Growth Hub Evaluation Survey is conducted annually by the Thames Valley Berkshire LEP. The survey gathers opinions from business owners about their experience of the Growth Hub’s services and the impact of the support received.
