HR Essentials Masterclass – Managing within the Law

HR and employment law is crucial for any business owner to be aware of as the law is the same regardless of the number of employees.

The aim of this free masterclass is to provide a broad and practical overview of Human Resources (HR) and employment law issues for business owners and managers. This half-day session will help you understand what you can do and the rights of your employees, from contracts, holidays and managing absence to handling disciplinaries and grievances.

Why attend the masterclass?

It is essential for any business, regardless of size, to have a basic understanding of HR and employment law. Getting things wrong or ‘not knowing what you don’t know’ is not a defence in an employment tribunal and could cost you thousands of pounds as well as damaging your reputation. Can you afford the risk?

What is covered?

This masterclass will cover the following:

  • ‘Self-employed work and employee’ – do you understand the differences, how and when you should use, he contracts that need to be issued, and the risks of getting this wrong.H
  • Holidays – how to calculate and ensure compliance for part-time and zero hours employees.
  • Discrimination risks – and where they can arise – from recruitment to dismissal.
  • Managing Absence – including sickness – and what rights employees have to statutory time off for other absences (e.g. maternity, paternity, emergency dependent leave and flexible working).
  • Disciplinary and grievance – how to discipline employees and deal with grievances.
  • What the costs could be of ‘getting it wrong’ if you receive an Employment Tribunal claim.

The objective for the session is to provide an overview of HR Management with relevant Employment Law.
