Could your business support the production and supply of ventilator components?

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is looking for organisations who can support in the supply of ventilators and ventilator components across the UK as part of the government’s response to COVID-19. Could your business help increase coronavirus (COVID-19) testing capacity?

The government wants help from businesses to increase testing capacity in the UK as part of its strategy to protect the NHS and save lives. The government would like to hear specifically from companies who can manufacture and supply:

  • consumables and equipment for coronavirus testing, in particular test kits (such as nose and throat swabs, transport media and vials) and RNA extraction lab consumables (such as reagents, plates and pipette tips)
  • new or existing types of coronavirus tests for antigens or antibodies. These must meet the requirement set out by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). MHRA has published the specification for the required antibody test

In addition, they also want to hear from public or private sector organisations that can offer laboratory capacity. We have published further guidance about the criteria laboratories need to meet to partner with a local NHS trust.

Do you have an innovative or novel approach to get ambulances cleaner quicker to help combat Coronavirus?

The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) has launched a new Innovation Focus Area as part of its Open Call for Innovation seeking industry’s help to identify rapid sanitising technology solutions that can be demonstrated in a live trial on an ambulance. Ambulances must be thoroughly cleaned once a patient with suspected COVID-19 has been transported. These cleaning times can take up to 45 minutes and have to be undertaken at cleaning centres which can be some distance away. Systems which are mobile, allow ease of operation and maintenance, are robust and reliable are of particular interest. Closing date is 15 April 2020. More details and how to apply can be found here.

What other assistance could your business offer?

The government are also looking for offers of support in other areas:

  • protective equipment for healthcare workers, such as masks, gowns and sanitiser
  • hotel rooms
  • transport and logistics, for moving goods or people
  • manufacturing equipment
  • warehouse or office space, for medical use or storage
  • expertise or support on IT, manufacturing, construction, project management, procurement or engineering
  • social care or childcare
